Hardwood Decor Tips

If hardwood is your star choice for your home, there are a few decor tips that will help you choose the floor that will suit best your decor.

Wood Grain

Texture or wood grain is a key decor characteristic just as important as the color or tone of the wood.

Heavy grain - texture adds great interest to relaxed, Casual interiors (like oak or walnut). Depending on the consistency of the grain, it is also important for Traditional decor (like mahogany)

Light grain - the clean minimalism of some wood grains can add the soft sophistication needed for Modern interiors (beech, maple, birch). Light, clean grains can work for Casual but often heavier textured grains will add the rough relaxed feeling you need.

Wood Tones

The color of the wood is very often the first characteristic we look at when choosing a floor. Yet, an easier way to select a floor color is by looking at the wood tone. Here are a few tips:

Light - clean, natural wood tones lend themselves to both the simplicity of Casual and the minimalism of Modern. This family does not have the richness or depth needed for a formal Traditional setting.

Dark - rich, deep tones will work across the board (Casual, Modern or Traditional) depending on the effect you are looking for, however, Traditional interiors really come together with the Elegance of a deep floor. Dark toned floors can also offer a contrasting drama that some Modern interiors feature.

Mid-tone - flexible to almost any decor category. Mid-tone floors can help blend a decor that has a host of different furniture wood tones. Ideally they are best suited for Casual, country settings since the décor style tends to be more relaxed and eclectic.
